We talk NFL and college hoops on this holiday edition of Jeff Allen Sportstalk

So with this year’s college football playoff, I feel like it’s déjà vu all over again and that the BCS is back. First, there should not be a weekly release of rankings as that causes most of the angst when the final release is done and creating the scenario for a team to get screwed over. I understand why it’s done because ESPN wants programming and college football wants the publicity but I think in the end, it just makes the selection committee look like buffoons. The criteria for selecting the playoff teams is a shell game in itself. Strength of schedule matters until it doesn’t. Then the emphasis is on conference championships, until it doesn’t meet with the real criteria at the end of the day, which is strength of brand. You can’t tell me that ESPN does not drive the process in who gets selected and they want who they think will draw and that is that. Penn State won the Big 10 and beat Ohio State head to head and their strength of schedule is better than Washington.
